Derek D. Tate, age 61, of Topeka, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 at his home in North Topeka following a short battle with lung cancer. Derek was born September 17, 1960 in Topeka the son of Margaret (Van Hyning) Tate. He grew up in Topeka, graduating from Seaman High School in 1978 where he played on the football team. He worked for Shawnee County and did home construction. He had worked for his father at Tate's Bait when in High School. He enjoyed fixing things. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret and his brother, Bradley Tate. He is survived by his father and his wife.
