STERLING – Robert E. Barber, age 81, died Friday, November 5, 2021, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Robert was born on November 17, 1939, in Phoenix, Ariz., the son of Norris and Helen (Huff) Barber, Sr.
He married Martha Sandoval on June 1, 1968 in Powell, Wyo. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2017.
Robert graduated from Montana State University in Missoula, Mont. He was employed as a teacher at Sterling High School and Challand Middle School spending 60 years as a special education teacher. Robert was an avid woodworker and enjoyed bowling on league and served as Sterling High School girls bowling coach for many years.
Survivors include one daughter, Ena Stellrecht; one son, Jay Barber ; one sister-in-law, Peggy Sandoval; one granddaughter, Greta Stellrecht and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Norris Barber, Jr.
There are no local services planned. Cremation rites will be accorded.
Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home, in Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established to Sterling Unit 5 Special Education Fund.
