BENSON - Barbara Ann "Bobby" Ford Turner, 90, died Aug. 5, 2011, in Benson.

She was born in West Lafayette, Ind., on July 13, 1921, the daughter of Omar and Ethyl Ford.

She graduated from Purdue University with majors in physical education and math.

On June 12, 1943, she married Frederick J. Turner.

Mrs. Turner was active in the Girl Scouts in Indiana and in Massachusetts, where she was director of Camp Marion White in Richmond. She held several teaching positions at high schools in Lenox and Dalton, Mass., where she also coached after-school sports. In 1960, she and her husband bought their family farm in Windsor, Mass., where they raised their children with tree, cattle and vegetable farming, as well as apples, strawberries and bees.

She enjoyed bird watching, photography, hiking, canoeing, camping, Mount Blue State Park in Maine and Hapgood Pond in Vermont.

Survivors include a brother, a daughter, two sons, and 10 grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2007 and a brother, Lloyd Ford, in 1988.

The funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at First Congregational Church in Fair Haven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National Audubon Society or to Girl Scouts of the USA.
