Betty Jane (Ickes) Schmidt, 77, of Penn Township, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, in her home. She was born March 21, 1944, in Altoona, a Daughter of the late Charles and Betty (Slates) Ickes. Betty had many interests such as camping, going fishing and painting, and especially loved to sew and cook. She was a member of Brush Valley Chapel and the Ladies Auxiliary of Bushy Run American Legion Post 260. Locally, she had worked for Jeannette Glass and the Penn-Trafford School District.

Betty is survived by her beloved husband, Arnold J. Schmidt Jr.; four children, Scott A. (wife Marsha) Schmidt, James E. (wife Heather) Schmidt, Tracie L. (Bill Hazlett) Mull and Arnold E. (wife Ashley) Schmidt; 11 grandchildren, Cody and Kylie Schmidt, Celina (husband Andy) Montgomery, Serenity Schmidt, Kayla (husband Alex) Hall, Heather (husband Tony) Henderson, Harlie Mull, Courtney Schmidt, Cody J. Schmidt, Abriana Flynn and Adalynn Schmidt; two great-grandchildren Nolan and Mia; siblings, Nancy Cline, Barbara Palmer, Patricia Critchalow and Raymond and Butch Ickes; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Donovan Schmidt, and brother, Jim Ickes.

Friends were received on Thursday Nov. 11 at Lindsay Jobe Funeral Home Inc., Harrison City where a funeral service was held on Friday, Nov. 12. Interment was in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.
