Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Jo Ann was a graduate of Hueytown High School and wife of Charles S. Turner, Jr who proceeded her in death. She married Charles Smith Turner (1931 - 2018) on June 12, 1954 and they were married for 63 years.
She completed business school, worked clerical jobs to support her family, and also enjoyed being a homemaker. Throughout her life, she volunteered her time serving the local church, teaching Sunday school, facilitating in WMU, and spending many hours ministering to women at Save-A-Life.
She had a heart for global missions, missionaries, and the Gospel. She lived in Birmingham, AL from 1972 until 2012 after Charles' retirement from the USAF. The couple then moved to Montgomery to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by her parents David Ollin Milton Phillips (1902 - 1956) and Lyda May Phillips (1910 - 1990) of Birmingham, and daughter-in-law Shea Young Turner.
She is survived by her sister Jerry Smith, her children, Charles David Turner (LeighAnne), Phyllis Elaine Turner Rollan (Robert), and Timothy Duane Turner. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Charles Tyler Rollan (Jess), Ansley Kathryn Aldridge (Aaron), Darrick Mitchell Turner (Leah), Haylie Danielle Reeves (Daniel), Jacob Trent Turner, Luke Anthony Turner, and Amelia Ann Turner; great grandchildren, Ryleigh Kate Aldridge, Jase Matthew Aldridge, Caroline Elaine Aldridge, Cooper Mays Rollan, Jackson Gehrig Rollan, and Asher Daniel Reeves, numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Visitation will be at Ridout's Trussville Chapel (1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235) on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 9 am, with funeral at 11 am. Dr. Bill Henard (FBC Athens, TN) will be officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Crest Cemetery.
