Abigail Hursey Jackson, 75, of Laytonsville, MD and formerly Dublin, NC, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep, on November 4, 2021. She was a devoted grandmother, who adored her two grandchildren, who called her Memaee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma Virginia Carroll Hursey and Theron David Hursey II, and her niece, Roberta Lauren Hursey.

Abigail was born at home in Dublin, NC on March 30, 1946. She attended Dublin Primary School, Elizabethtown High School and Campbell University, studying Home Economics. While there, she met a dashing young man from Elizabeth City, NC, William (Bill) Jackson, and was married on April 9, 1967. They moved to Ft. Meade, MD, where Bill was stationed in the Army. She pursued a degree in Elementary Education with a music specialization and graduated from the University of Maryland. She received her master's degree from Marywood University, and taught elementary school music for thirty-two years before retiring in 2002 from the Anne Arundel County Public School System.

When Abigail wasn't doting on her grandchildren, she enjoyed doll collecting, needlework, sewing, shopping, spending time at the Outer Banks, and attending doll conventions. She loved children and enjoyed whenever they visited her home. Abigail loved playing piano and loved listening to her family play music and sing even more. She adored all her family and looked forward to spending time with them, especially at Christmas. Abigail and Bill were foster parents to six children at various times during their marriage. They also hosted two foreign exchange students whom they considered their children: Monica Martins Monteiro of Sao Paolo, Brazil and Gontijo Jordan Pinto of Sao Paolo, Brazil.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, NC on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 5 -7 pm.
