He grew up in and around the Bay City community, attended Hilliard High School and graduated from Bay City High School. His life revolved around his family. He worked for Rice Belt Warehouse for many years, then he decided to work for himself so that he could aid with the raising of his eight children.
He had a passion for the great outdoors and was nicknamed "the yard man." He was known for having a heart of gold just like a "green thumb" he would sow and grow people like cucumbers and tomatoes in his garden, bring life to relationships just like a dying ivy plant, and begin/sustain friendships just like he loved watering and maintaining his prized flower beds.
When he was not gardening, he would be attending his grandchildren's athletic and school functions, fishing, listening to music with friends, and working in his crossword puzzle books.
Eugene was preceded in death by his father, James Donald Harris, Sr.; his mother, Priscilla Hall; stepfather Frank Andrews; his brother James Donald Harris, Jr. "JD"; sisters-in-law Rose Fiala, and Estella Harris and a special friend, Wesley "Scott" Brewer. He is survived by three daughters: Michelle Harris of Houston, TX; La Shanda Haynes (late Gary Hayes Jr.) of Palacios, TX; and Carolyn Harris of Corpus Christi, TX; James Harris Houston, TX. One granddaughter, Artasia Harris of Missouri City, TX. Seven grandsons: Da Wayne, Gary, and Cayden Haynes of Palacios, TX; Vincent, Tyson, and Sean Delano of Paradise Valley, AZ; and Kamren Harris of Houston, TX. Two brothers, Manson Harris (Wandalyn) of Bay City, TX and Nelson Harris of Palacios, TX. Two nephews James D. Harris III (Quamica) of Wharton, TX and Jonathan Harris of Bay City, TX. God sister Aletha Fay Coulter of Blessing and a whole host of cousins and friends.
