Obituary for Gary Wayne Hester
Gary Wayne Hester, 76, of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2021 with his daughter by his side. Gary is preceded in death by his wife Judy Margaret Hester, his son Alan Matthew Hester; and his parents John Morris Hester, Sr and Virginia Elizabeth Broseker Hester.
Gary was born in Baltimore, MD on June 6, 1945. Later the family would move to Waynesboro, VA where Gary graduated from Waynesboro High School in May of 1963. After serving in the US Navy, Gary began working at the University of Virginia Hospital where he met Judy, a registered nurse who had recently started working at UVH. They married on January 18, 1969. Son Alan was born in 1972 and daughter Karen in 1974. The Hester family moved to Knoxville in November of 1974 and remained there since. The family has been longtime members of West Park Baptist Church. Gary enjoyed cooking, playing golf, watching old movies and listening to music.
Survivors include daughter Karen Elizabeth Garland of Atlanta, GA, brother John Morris Hester, Jr (Becky) of Waynesboro, VA; along with many nieces and nephews.
