Asa Ames was what is now concidered a Folk Artist who did wood sculptures of the busts of relatives and public figures. He was known to have won a prize for his work at the New York State fair. He also did life size figures of children. His works have been exhibited at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY. Boulder History Museum, Bolder, CO. New York State Historical Association, Cooperstown, NY, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Center, Williamsburg, VA, American Folk Art Museum, NY City, NY, Fitchburg Art Museum, Fitchburg, Mass.Huntington Galleries,
Huntington, WV. Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, Conn. He and his works have been the subject of articles in Antique Magazine Sept. 1982 and Folk Art Magazine, Summer of 2005 with an exhibition scheduled in early 2008 at the American Folk Art Museum, New York City, NY. Some of his 13 known works of which 11 survive; are also in private and corporate collections.
