Age 93, of Pittsburgh, peacefully embarked on her next adventure on November 3, 2021. Verna is survived by her brother, Burton Shurlow; sister, Ardeth Westrope; two sons, James (Janetze) Hart and Kevin (Donna) Hart; daughter, Maureen (Guy) Perry; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles (Chuck) Hart; father, Earl Shurlow; mother, Neva Shurlow; brother, Arden Shurlow; daughter, Deborah Hart-Bowley. Dr. Hart received her PhD in Special Education, after which she moved to Pittsburgh where she enjoyed teaching others - not just to prepare for graduate teachers, but sharing her vast knowledge on the special education field. Verna's legacy will continue to exist - not only though her children, but by those whose lives she had touched. Verna retired from PITT in 1992 as an Emeritus Professor. Due to several immediate family members being immune compromised, the service is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Verna's name may be made to the Dementia Society of America. Private inurnment will be in Jefferson Memorial Park.
