Mr. Paul Herbert Thompson age 84, of Howell Rd., Jonesville, widower of Virginia Moss Thompson, lost his battle with Parkinson's Disease on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Thompson was born in the Pea Ridge community of Union, December 19, 1936, the last surviving child of the late Willie James "Jack" Thompson and Annie Mae Horne Thompson. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church. He was a retired master carpenter having owned and operated his own business for many years building and remodeling homes in the community. Mr. Thompson was a proud veteran who served as a medic with the SC National Guard for over 30 years. He was a true patriot who loved his county and believed in its freedom. He was an avid gunsmith and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and cooking. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he was always full of life, laughter and wit.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra Toney Waldron of Spartanburg and Paula Kaye Thompson Jones and husband Wade of Jonesville; two sons, Michael Ray Thompson and wife Jenny of Union and James Richard "Rick" Thompson of Jonesville; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his beloved fur babies. Mr. Thompson was predeceased by two sisters, Headie Ruth Wood and Betty Lou Wood and three brothers, Jackie Earl Thompson, Billy Thompson and Douglas Lee Thompson.

The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Natasha Hill, Lynn Babb, Marie Bailey, Laura Moss, and Jyl Guessregen along with Spartanburg Regional Hospice Nurses, and the Shut-In Ministry of Bethlehem and Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church, for their love and care of Mr. Thompson and family during his prolonged illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale, Rev. Scott Cobb and his granddaughter, Shannon Toney Smith. Burial with Military Honor will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Tuesday at the church prior to the service.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Paul Toney, Tim Palmer, Sam Walker, Mark Reynolds, Michael Smith, Dillon Thompson, Ralph Thompson and Tim Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be William Moss, Robert Wells, Frankie Joyner, Adrian Wofford, Nicholas, Chad, Jacob, and Kevin Thompson.

Memorials may be made to the Shut-In Ministry of Bethlehem and Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church, 1622 Kelly Rd., Union, SC 29379 or to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Care, 1530 Drayton Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29303.
