ALBANY, Ga. The Rev. Johnny A. Richter, 69, of Leesburg died Monday, June 19, 2006, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today, June 22, at Gillionville Baptist Church with the Revs. David Benton, Joe Carr and Keith Travis officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

A Colquitt County native, he had lived in Albany, Ga., 40 years, prior to moving to Lee County six years ago. He founded Johnny Richter Roofing Company in 1965, now known as Richter Contracting Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Putney and was serving as interim pastor of Faith Baptist Church. He had also served as pastor and interim pastor as various churches in the South Georgia area. He was an avid sportsman and had served in the United States Air Force.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Richter Wiggins; a granddaughter, Brandi Elise Fields; two brothers, Edgar Joe Richter and Vester Wesley Richter; and his parents, Joe and Grace Richter.
