Jose Gonzalo Gomez

Jose Gonzalo Gomez, 64, of Santa Tecla, El Salvador entered the presence of the Lord on Saturday, October 30, 2021, in Hollister, California after a courageous battle with Covid19 complications.

Jose spent his career in the affordable housing industry doing what he loved most, helping low-income families have a roof over their heads. He believed that in providing this basic need, would allow families to have a better opportunity for their children. Most recently as the Executive Director of the Housing Authority of the County of Monterey, he led a full-time staff of over 80 employees. Prior to coming to the Housing Authority Jose was at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development office in San Francisco where he was HUD Division Director of Public and Indian Housing. Jose began and ended his career as a public servant with great pride and commitment to his job, no matter what obstacles he faced.

He was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Benedict Catholic Church. He served on several non-profit housing groups; a lifetime soccer afficionado and an always faithful New York Jets fan. Jose was always ready to BBQ with a cold beer in hand and salsa music blaring. He was a kind, selfless, generous, caring, hardworking man and a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him, were touched by his big heart and contagious laughter. He will be deeply missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Carolina Sahagun-Gomez; children, Leonor Barboza Gomez (Emilio), Leanna Sainz (Hilario), Vanessa Juarez (Nathan), Adrian Sahagun, Julie Ann Guttirez, Richard Gutirrez; Siblings, Ana Gomez (Harold); he leaves behind eight grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, devoted friends and family who deeply loved him and will miss him. His life and legacy will live on in the hearts of his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonor Cortez and Jose Gonzalo Gomez; and his brother, William Gomez.

Visitation will be at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home on November 4, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Family and friends will meet at Mission San Juan Bautista November 5, 2021 for a Mass of the resurrection at 9:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Prunedale, Ca at 1:30 p.m.
