Residence Botetourt County VA; a 29 year-old Lawyer, graduate of University of Virginia.
Enlisted on 6/10/1861 at Waskey Mill, Botetourt County, VA., on 7/20/1861 he was elected as and Commissioned as Captain of his own company, 57th Virginia Volunteers. (This company subsequently became Company K, 57th Virginia Infantry.)
Present or accounted for on all Rolls from enlistment until severely Wounded In Action (arm amputated) 7/1/1862 in Battle of Malvern Hill, VA.; resigned 8/23/1862.

The 57th Infantry Regiment was organized in September, 1861, by adding five independent companies to the five companies of E.F. Keen's Battalion. Some of the men were from Powhatan, Pittsylvania, and Botetourt counties. It reported 113 casualties at Malvern Hill.

He returned home to Botetourt County; Lawyer, judge and served in the Virginia State Legislature.
