William "Gayle" Perkins, age 92, of Owenton, passed away Friday morning, November 5, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born March 15, 1929, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Florian and Della Mae Wainscott Perkins. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Levi Perkins and his siblings, Curtis Perkins, Mildred Massie, Marvin Perkins, Nannie Howard, and Odella Furnish. Gayle served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer, operated a bulldozer for many years, and also worked as a racehorse trainer. Gayle will be remembered as always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and tending to his animals. He also enjoyed watching basketball and baseball.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 years, Sue Perkins; his children, Kenny (Sharon) Perkins, Timmy (Kelly) Perkins, Tony (Melissa) Perkins, Susan Laree (Jimmy) Howe, Tabitha (David) Perry, and Joy (Bobby Joe) Rose; his brothers, Don Perkins and Park (Shirley) Perkins; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and one on the way; one great-great-granddaughter; as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 11 am until 2 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm with Bro. Craig Howard presiding. Burial will be in the Perkins Family Cemetery
