Ruth Margaret Hall, 89, of Hampton and a former resident of Amesbury, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 5, 2021. Ruth was born in Amesbury on October 8, 1931, the only child of the late Daniel and Ruth (Lawton) Murphy. She was raised in Amesbury and graduated from Amesbury High School in 1949.

Ruth went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Framingham State Teacher's College in Framingham, MA where she was a member college choir and sang as alto soloist. In 1953 the choir was chosen to represent the United States at the College International Music Conference in Brussels, Belgium and Ruth sang all over Europe for 3 months. She loved to tell the story of visiting a small cabaret in Paris where she and her group struck a friendship with the piano player and brought the house down after a rousing rendition of Old Man River.

In 1955, Ruth returned to Europe and taught music in England and in France, all the while singing on weekends. She returned to the United States and taught in Madison, CT and San Diego, CA before coming back to New England and teaching in Haverhill, MA, Amesbury, MA, Salisbury, MA and North Hampton, NH until illness caused her to retire from teaching in 1993. She loved teaching, loved music, and loved her students, teaching literature, world history and music to thousands of kids during her 37 year career.

Ruth leaves her devoted and loving sons, Brian Hall of Hampton and Mark Hall and his wife, Lauren, also of Hampton. Her boys will miss her terribly and they will cherish her memory forever.

Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
