Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Barbara M. Gardner, ago 80 of Sauk village, IL. Mrs. Gardner passed away October 29, 2021 at Vibra Hospital in Crown Point, Indiana. Mrs. Gardner is preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Erna Dorsch, her husband of 37 years, Ben Gardner and a son, Terry Gardner. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Gardner Roeder of Steger, IL; sons, Scott Gardner and Michael Gardner, both of Sauk Village, IL; brother, Volker Dorsch of Germany. She also leaves her grandchildren, Arianna, Aubree, Audree and Alex Gardner and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gardner grew up in WWII Germany and witnessed first-hand the pain and suffering of life in a concentration camp during the war. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 19 and became a naturalized citizen shortly thereafter. Having grown up during the war, she developed a very strong and determined will. She earned an Associate Degree. She worked outside the home for only a very short time and as her children came along, her life became deeply devoted to her husband and children. She was a musician, playing the violin and the piano. She loved to cook for her family and friends and she loved her grandchildren intently. The family will receive friends at Watson-North funeral Home Saturday November 6 between the hours of 11 am and 2 p.m. The funeral service will commence at 2 p.m. in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home with Darrell Myers officiating. Mrs. Gardner will be laid to rest alongside her late husband at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Vanntown with friends and family members serving as pallbearers.
