Dewey Virgil Young
November 23, 1937 - November 2, 2021

Dewey Virgil Young, 83, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born on November 23, 1937, to parents James Esco Virgil Young and Della Mae Boring Young of Maryville, Tennessee. He was the sixth child of 11 total children (six boys and five girls). They were brought up on a small farm in Maryville, Tennessee where he enjoyed squirrel hunting before school after milking the cows and feeding the hogs. His main other chore was ironing all the boys' jeans.

Dewey served four years in the U.S. Navy, and later was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration. He was responsible for the installation and maintenance of various air navigation aids at airports and other facilities in the southeast. He attended Georgia Tech studying electrical engineering. In 1982, he established his own company, Hydro-Air Associates, Inc. For many years he provided consulting services to mechanical contractors throughout the southeast. He served as a longtime member of the Associated Air Balance Council (AABC) in many capacities, including as it's national President in 1989 – 1990. Dewey was also a lifetime member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), also serving in many capacities including as President of the Atlanta Chapter covering the Southeast. For many years before retirement Dewey also served with the Georgia Chapter of the Sheet Metal Air-Conditioning National Association (SMACNA), headquartered in Washington, DC.

Dewey was the ultimate outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and golf with family and friends over the years. In later life, his favorite activity became duck hunting in Arkansas and Mississippi with his grandsons. He recently enjoyed a very special "redfish" fishing expedition with his son and grandsons to the Gulf of Mexico off of Louisiana. He was a devoted friend and neighbor, never meeting a stranger, and establishing strong friendships around the world.

To celebrate his life, Dewey is survived by his spouse, Jo Ann George Young of Fayetteville; two sons, Ryan (Jacquelyn), and Jonathan (Brittany); five grandchildren, Parker, Dalton, Ansley, Annabelle, and Abby; three step-grandchildren, Trevor, Trenton, and Taj; sister, Nancy (Reed) Bryson; brothers, Charles Young (Donna) and James Young (Pat), all of Maryville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patsy Van Ostran of Avon Park, Florida, and a host of nieces and nephews throughout Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Utah, Maryland, Colorado, and Montana.

A service will be held Monday, November 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. The family will receive visitors before the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00PM.
