He was born June 22, 1929, in Lerna, a son of Wilbur and Edna Tanner Scott. He married Dorothy Kearney in 1981; she survives. Other survivors include three sons, Kevin, Keith and Marvin Scott, all of Charleston; one daughter, Mrs. Tony (Misty) Strohl of Mattoon; three stepsons, James Jenkins of Mattoon, and Dale Jenkins and Mark McConnaha, both of Charleston; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ted (Donna) Bodamer of Decatur; a half brother, Charles Jenkins of Mattoon; four half sisters, Eva Uhls of Cedar Creek, Texas, Mrs. Duane (Lola) Rogers of Mattoon, Maxine Garner of Sullivan and Mrs. Byron (Donna) Montaque of Sacramento, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by one son, one stepdaughter and two half brothers.
