Nancy Bessent Black, 92, of Monroe, NC passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021.

She was born in Davie County, NC on February 10, 1929 daughter to the late Samuel Russell Bessent and Bess Cloe Wood Bessent.

She is also preceded in death by her loving husband John Walter "Jack" Black.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, 302 E Windsor St, Monroe, NC 28112. Burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 10:00AM-10:45AM prior to the service in the fellowship hall.

Nancy graduated from Pfeiffer College and Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing. She had a distinguished career in nursing, beginning in 1952 with private duty nursing and then went to work with the hospital in Union County, NC delivering babies and held this position until 1961. On September 1, 1961 she went to Wingate University as Director of the Infirmary and remained there until 1978. She then went to work with Union County Public Health Department and retired February 1991.

Nancy is survived by her two sons John W. Black Jr. (Sheila) and Phillip J. Black (Susan), daughter Celia B. Lienau (Mickey), four grandchildren Dana Rumbold (Jim),Rebekah Yox (John), Kayce Isaacs (Jason), Michael Sorenson, and three great-grandchildren, Hannah Briell, Emily Briell, and Evelyn Isaacs.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of Monroe,
302 E. Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
