Mike had worked for Indiana Bell as a lineman and later as a bus driver for Tipton Community Schools. He was a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1956. Mike attended Heartland Church in Tipton County. He was a member of the Sons of Tipton Kiwanis, the Rotary Club and volunteered as a tutor for the after school program at West Street Christian Church. He also enjoyed singing in the church choir.
Mike traveled across the country and made many friends along the way. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1956 – June 1960. Later he very much enjoyed meeting up with his Navy buddies at their reunions.
Mike is survived by three children, Nancy Godwin, Huntsville, Alabama, Amy Mohler, Tipton and Sam Mohler and wife Lisa of Tipton; five grandchildren, Maria Kalizae and husband Jeremy, Margaret Godwin, Ryan Napier and wife Alison, Alex Napier and wife Lori Nierzwick, and Megan Napier and partner Caitlin Wylie. He also has three great-grandchildren, Bella Spears, Hadlee Napier and Knox Pharis.
A memorial service for Mike will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 11 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor William Salsbery presiding and with military honors provided by the Tipton American Legion and the U.S. Navy. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Masks are required at both the visitation and funeral. The service will be live streamed and available for watching later on Mike's obituary page at www.young-nichols.com where condolences may be left for his family.
