On January 5, 1934, Patricia Louise (Hightower) Evans, of Kiowa, Oklahoma, was born at home in Midland, Arkansas, on a frigid winter night to Marc "Boss" and Louise (McFadden) Hightower. In the midst of the Depression, comforts were few and the house was cold that winter; so, to keep the newborn baby warm enough, Patricia's mother and father wrapped her up, placed her in an open box, and slid her underneath the warm coal stove. Pat grew up in the small town of Midland with her ten brothers and sisters.

When Pat was just a young girl, she saw a handsome but older local boy walking down the road and told her sisters, "I'm going to marry that man when I grow up." That older boy was Damon Cecil Evans. Sure enough, Pat and Damon were married a number of years later on January 25, 1953. As wife to a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, Pat moved with her husband several times throughout their marriage as Damon worked different jobs in the Civil Service and construction. They lived in such places as Wilmington, California; Midland, Arkansas; El Paso, Texas; and in 1965, moved to Kiowa.

Pat held various jobs while raising their three children including working at JC Penney's, Komar's, and the Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester. The occupation she loved most and is most loved for was babysitting her grandchildren as well as a number of other children throughout the years. Every child's favorite part of the day at Pat's house was shortly after lunch. Pat would rock and sing to each one until they fell asleep for naptime. She sang songs like "Jesus Loves Me," "Mr. Froggy Went a 'Courtin," and "Brahms' Lullaby." One of Pat's great loves was caring for and loving children. Pat also loved having her family visit and cooking big meals for them with fresh produce from Damon's garden. Other enjoyments were a cup of good, hot coffee in the early morning, working crossword puzzles, reading, watching red cardinals outside the window, eating out with her husband when they went to town for their weekly grocery shopping trip, and singing old songs with her brothers and sisters at family reunions.

Pat regularly attended and was a member of Kiowa First Baptist Church where she taught a children's Sunday School class for several years, sang in the choir, and served as the church pianist for many years until retiring at age 82; and goodness, how she could sing and play that piano! Pat's family loved hearing her especially when she played and sang the songs she learned from her mother. Pat was a deeply devoted follower of Jesus, and kept the words of her beloved Scofield Bible deep within her heart. Pat followed the greatest of our Lord's commandments – she loved... and she loved greatly.
