Warren Banta, of Co. E, enrolled Oct. 16, 1861 in Springfield by Capt. Cuppy as a 3rd Corporal; mustered in Nov. 22, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Lt. Stansbury at age 29. He was 5Œ 8.50 tall, dark complexion, brown eyes, and dark hair. Born Aug. 28, 1832 in Preble Co., OH, employed as a farmer, married to Rebecca J. Robbins (Elam's sister), resident of Collamer, in Whitley Co., IN. Died of wounds Apr. 6, 1862 in Pittsburg Landing, TN with rank of Corporal. Notes: Brother of Frederick; son of John and Barbara Tanner Banta. Praised by Col. Reed in battle of Shiloh where he was killed while leading Co. E. Body removed to IN by friends; originally buried in Upper Union Cemetery then body moved to Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Wabash Co., IN near N. Manchester. Also listed as buried at Shiloh National Cemetery, Hardin Co., TN, grave unknown. Left 2 children and wife. Warren H. Banta's unnamed wife filed Widow's Pension Application to receive Widow's Pension Certificate #908; Minor's Pension Application to receive Minor's Pension Certificate #101650.
