Matthew Terry John Payne, 18, a recent graduate of Grissom High School in Huntsville, Alabama passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 23, 2010. Matthew was scheduled for entry into the U.S. Navy Special Warfare Operations program in December. He was the military skills team commander and battalion executive officer of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program at Grissom and was also a mentor of the entire organization. He was an accomplished runner, skier, rock climber, motocross racer, scuba diver, swimmer, marksman, black belt and rappeller. Matthew loved spending time with his younger brother Tanner, and providing caring guidance in all that they did. Matthew is the son of Stefanie and Bob Armstrong and the late Terry John Payne. He leaves a void in the hearts of his parents, brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, not only inAlabama, but across the the country. There will be a celebration service at 2 p.m. Thursday at Weatherly Heights Baptist Church at the corner of Cannstatt and Dortmund in Huntsville, Alabama.
