Florence was born March 6, 1934 in Worthington, MN to James and Bertha (Willardson) Burnham. There she grew up on the family farm and developed a love for horses. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1952 and then attended Mankato State for one year. After the year at Mankato she went to work for the Nobles County Superintendent of Schools. She then accepted a position with the State Department in Washington, D.C. and then at the United States Embassy in Oslo, Norway, where she spent two years. Upon returning from Norway she was united in marriage to Don Wahl on December 20, 1959 in Mankato, MN. Florence and Don eventually settled in Wabasso, MN where they adopted and raised their two children.
Florence was an active member the United Methodist Church, serving and performing many roles. What she is probably most remembered for is as the "AVON Lady" something she did for 30 years. Shortly after Don's death in 1988, Florence moved to Redwood Falls, MN and started working at Jackpot Junction Casino, where she worked until she was 70 years old. In 2004, Florence moved to Mora, MN where she was active in the Mora United Methodist Church and was a Foster Grandparent at Trailview Elementary School. Florence enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bridge, traveling, but most importantly knitting. She knit hundreds Christmas Socks, afghans, baby blankets and socks in her lifetime. She will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband Don, parents James and Bertha Burnham and siblings Donald Burnham, Allen Burnham and Marcia Burnham.
Florence is survived by her two children, Brett (Mary) Wahl and Stacy (Mark) Slettum; 5 grandchildren, Dani, Chase and Ally Wahl, Noah and Kate Slettum; 3 siblings, Mary Asprey, Carol Rutzen, Joyce Funk; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
