Shirley Phillips was born on September 18 1935 Tulare CA, the only daughter of Pauline Church and Dean Durant. She died peacefully of natural causes on October 6 2021.

She graduated from Le Grand High School in 1953, where she met the love of her life, Lewis Phillips. They were married in December 12 1953.

She worked at Farmers Insurance until she and Lewis began their family. When her children were well on their way, she returned to Farmers, working until her retirement in 1995.

Her interests ran the gamut, from league bowling on the Farmers team to backpacking, clogging and rooting for the Giants. She was also a faithful 49er fan She was a charter member of the Merced chapter of Sweet Adelines. After retirement, she traveled on cruises to Mexico, and took a bus tour of Route 66.

She lost her life partner Lewis in 1989. She is survived by daughter Karen Stacey and her husband Roy of Myrtle Creek OR, son Steve Phillips and his wife Denise of Antelope CA, daughter Laurie Cheatham of Vallejo CA and son Randy Phillips of Sacramento. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Her family extends special gratitude to her grandson Nick Stacey and his wife Chelsea, who took great care of his Grammy in the final months of her life.

Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park in Merced CA, and will be private.
