Graveside services for Richard Galan Pierce, 84, will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Hurricane Cemetery in Arcadia, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Officiating the service will be Pastor Steve Smith of Eastwood Baptist Church in Haughton.

Richard was born on August 11, 1936, to Willis Glen Pierce and Vyna Byrd Pierce in Arcadia, Louisiana and passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Richard was a resident of Shreveport and worked in the water department for the City of Shreveport. Uncle Richard was grateful for all the loving people at the group home who cared for Randy over the last 20 years after Richard suffered a debilitating heart attack – especially Lavon, and now Lakesha and Loretta (his "step-mom" as she is known).

Randy's faith has grown thanks to those special caretakers and his church family. That gift of faith has helped Randy better understand and accept heart-breaking times like these. Anthony Walker, Richard's godson, was always there to help Rich with Randy and repairs and maintenance at their home. Anthony was a "Good Son" as Richard told his nephew Chris. Richard loved Anthony from the bottom of his heart.

At the age of 22, Richard came home from college to take care of his mother. She needed a home and he was determined to make that happen. He went to work for the trolley company in Shreveport, and after a couple of years he saved enough money for a down payment for their house on Greenbriar. Richard made Mommie Pierce's dream come true! "I can still see her smile and how happy she was the day we moved into that house," he told GiGi as he was taking chemotherapy treatments a few weeks ago. Richard loved his mother very much!

Uncle Richard went to Mississippi College on an athletic scholarship. Baseball and basketball were his passion in those days. He recalled many happy times he enjoyed during those college game days. Throughout his long lifetime he enjoyed watching those sports on TV.

Family meant everything to Uncle Richard. Especially his son, Randy, who was the center of his life. Uncle Richard was always there for his sister and her children, too. His generous nature helped them through many "rough times" through the years. He was there for many happy times, too, like birthdays and all the ball games his nephews played in their youth.

Uncle Richard will be missed by his family and friends whose lives he touched in his own "gentle way."

He is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Randall Pierce; sister, Loretto Brandao; nephews, Chris Brandao, Tim Brandao; and niece, GiGi Gertson.

The family suggests memorials may be made to ARC of Caddo-Bossier, 351 Jordan St., Shreveport, Louisiana 71101, or call (318) 221-8392.
