Michael Patrick Mahaffey
June 14, 1991 ~ October 24, 2021 (age 30)

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Michael Patrick Mahaffey. He joyfully entered this world on June 14, 1991 in Manteca, CA and peacefully earned his angel wings October 24, 2021, in Modesto, CA.

His parents Frank and Margaret Mahaffey were overjoyed to welcome their first born child. Michael was bright, loving and inquisitive from infancy to adulthood. The family moved from Manteca to Salida when Michael was 3 years old. He attended Sisk Elementary School and Salida Middle School. In his younger years he played Little League baseball, and helped his Mother with Stanislaus County Fair garden competitions. The Mahaffey's won many awards and prizes over the years for their family and individual garden entries.

Michael graduated with Honors from Grace Davis High School in Modesto in 2009, where he was a member of the Cross Country Track Team, California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and Orchestra. He was an accomplished violinist from childhood throughout the rest of his life, and also played guitar.

Michael earned an academic scholarship to University of Santa Cruz where he majored in Environmental Science and Film Studies. While there, he enjoyed exploring the scenic mountains, beautiful beaches and local shops and restaurants. Michael hosted a popular radio show on the University's campus radio station. He also attended Stanislaus State University. Michael truly enjoyed learning about a vast variety of subjects and was a deep thinker. He was a skilled writer, and an avid reader with an extensive book collection. Michael was a video game enthusiast. He was skilled at building computer systems, particularly enjoying taking apart a defunct machine and restoring it to a new streamlined version. Our family will lovingly remember many family trips to Disneyland, Las Vegas, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Michael had a love for taking road trips to parts unknown. He recently was accepted as a Cadet in the Maritime Academy to pursue his love of travel and service to his country.

Michael was a loving young man who eagerly looked forward to family gatherings and holidays. Our family is devasted by this loss, but grateful for the 30 years we were Blessed with him. He is survived by his parents Frank and Margaret Mahaffey of Salida, sister and brother-in-law Shannon and Michael Leon of Modesto, precious niece Sophie Leon and a new niece or nephew coming in December. Michael was dearly loved by Aunt Sheryl and Uncle Joe Pimentel of Manteca, Aunt Patti Wilbur of Ripon, Aunt Caroline Montgomery of Moorpark, and cousins who loved their "Mikey": Dr. Andrew (Laura) Wilbur, Jerod Pimentel, Ian (Laura) Wilbur, Marissa Pimentel, Joseph Pimentel III and Devin & Erin Montgomery. Michael was also close to his younger generation of cousins: Jace, Jiana, Jaylee and Jessa Pimentel; and Naomi, Owen and Emme Wilbur. Michael had an engaging personality and will be deeply missed by many friends.

He was predeceased by grandparents Richard & Eunice Mahaffey, and Andrew & Mineyo Maccoun.

Family and friends are invited to Michael's Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 6 at Centerpoint First Baptist Church, 4567 Finney Rd, Salida, CA 95368. Interment will be private at Ripon Cemetery.

The Mahaffey family would like to thank Pastor Gary Dew of Centerpoint First Baptist Church in Salida for his unwavering support.

In lieu of flowers, Michael's family requests donations in his honor be sent to Centerpoint First Baptist Church, 4567 Finney Road, Salida, CA 95368, where it will assist their Youth Ministry and Garden projects. Please include a note indicating it's in Michael Mahaffey's memory.
