James Alfred Rose, Jr, age 78, of Austell passed away October 31, 2021. James graduated from Central High School in Phenix City, AL, where he lettered in golf and joined ROTC. He went on to attend Southern Tech, where his skill as a pool shark helped pay his way. James proudly served his country US Navy during the Vietnam War, and exited service as a Petty Officer – 3rd Class. He was a former member of the Harper Valley Hunting Club and a retiree from the City of Atlanta Board of Education, having served 32 years. James was an entertainer and loved to play guitar and write songs. He was also an avid outdoorsman, an expert marksman, and enjoyed fishing. Being in the woods is where James felt closest to God.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred Rose, Sr. and Edith Kathleen Rose. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Rose; sons, Jamie (wife, Kristin) Rose of Dallas and Jeremy (wife, Kristi) Rose of Powder Springs; brothers, Michael F. (wife, Denise) Rose of Littleton, CO and Barry A. Rose of Phenix City, AL; four grandchildren, Aidan M. Rose, Lexi K. Rose, Carter B. Rose, and Ella K. Rose; niece, Kelly; and nephew, Bradley.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 4, 12:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Rev. Derek Berry. Interment will follow at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 12:00 before the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 3454 Jimmy Lee Smith Pkwy, Hiram, GA 30141.
