Wayne Lynn Verhaegen Jr., age 31, of Danville, IL passed away at 8:28 a.m. on October 29, 2021 at his residence.

Funeral services honoring his life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Creek officiating. Burial will follow at Campground Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

Wayne was born on September 9, 1990 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Wayne Verhaegen Sr. and Merri (Shupe) Verhaegen.

Wayne is survived by his mother, Merri Verhaegen of Mattoon, IL; his father, Wayne Verhaegen Sr. of Decatur, IL; his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Brazzell of Mattoon, IL; one brother, Scott Verhaegen of Charleston, IL; a nephew, Vann Verhaegen of Florida; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dale Shupe, and his paternal grandparents, Harvey Verhaegen and Janice Shelton.

Wayne was a gentle, loving, and generous young man. He made friends easily, accepted everyone, and saw the good in them. Wayne loved organizing and having parties and playing Bingo at them. His family was his top priority. He graduated from Armstrong Center in Mattoon, Illinois, and was employed at WorkSource Enterprises in Danville, Illinois, for the past ten years. Wayne loved Jesus and knew about His birth, His death on the cross, and His resurrection. He often called his Mom or Grandma to pray with him about something or for someone. He was a true believer!
