USMA Class of June 1943. Cullum No. 13805.

The Washington Post Tuesday, May 14, 1946
Silver Star Given Lieutenant Fearn Field Posthumously
The Silver Star has been awarded posthumously to Lieutenant Fearn Field, his parents, Captain Richard S. Field, (United States Navy, retired) and Mrs. Field, of Rockville, Maryland, learned yesterday.

A native of Washington and a graduate of West Point in 1943, Lieutenant Field was killed in action in Germany March 6, 1945 after volunteering to join a small, lightly armed rescue force in search of trapped men.

The award was made for his gallantry in action. His citation reads in part: When the force was ambushed by strongly entrenched enemy employing heavy machine gun fire, Lieutenant Field gallantly advanced single handedly against the enemy, fighting courageously until sustaining fatal wounds in the ensuing action. His great fortitude, intrepid determination and unflinching devotion to his men and his duty reflect highest credit upon himself and the military service.
