A beloved and special lady, Lucile "Susie" Davis Blaylock, 98, of Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation and a former resident of Brown Avenue in Waynesville, North Carolina, entered into her heavenly home on Thursday, October 28, 2021.
Born December 20, 1922, in Waynesville to the late James Vinson Davis and Ella Mehaffey Davis. The Davis family made their home on a farm in Ratcliffe Cove where Susie grew up making happy memories. She often enjoyed reminiscing about the beautiful seasons on the farm and wonderful times with her family.
Susie was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and homemaker. She retired as a Manager for a dental office before working for Social Services. She then worked for 20 years as a Foster Grandparent for Mountain Projects.
She was a lady of strong faith and was blessed with many friendships. Susie was very, very patriotic. She loved reading, sewing, needlecrafts, traveling, and listening to and watching birds and nature.
In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Lee Blaylock; two brothers, Ernest and Roy Davis, of Waynesville.
Susie is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Steve) Poolos, of Waynesville and Ocean Isle Beach, NC; two sons, Bob (Claudia) Blaylock, of Lexington, KY and Gerald (Cherry) Blaylock, of Waynesville, NC; and a brother, Lawrence (Helen) Davis, of Waynesville; eight grandchildren, Brook (Dana) Blaylock-Stickels, of Charlotte, NC, Cody (Abby) Blalock, of Asheville, NC, Dr. Matt Blaylock, of Knoxville, TN, Stephen (Kristin) Poolos, of San Jose, CA, Michael (Conly) Poolos, of Greenville, SC, Ian (Monica) Blaylock, of Tyrone, GA, Megan (Justin) Starling, of Memphis, TN, Macy (Eric) Reed, of Lexington, KY; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2021 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Green Hill Cemetery.
