Zena met Gus Holfeld while he was serving as a dispatch rider for the 2nd Heavy Anti-Aircraft unit stationed outside of Grays Essex, England in 1941. They married in April 1943 in Thurrock, Essex, England. He was transferred to CMHA London and served there until 1946. They returned to Canada for his discharge. They raised four children. Harold and Zena lived in Jansen, Indian Head, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton and Victoria, B.C. Zena died in 2015.
