MIKE LAWSON, son of Gale and Retta McClure Lawson, was born July 27, 1947, in Lebanon, Missouri, and was greeted at Heaven's gate on September 16, 2021, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-four.

Mike spent his early years on a farm near Stoutland, Missouri. In fourth grade, his family moved to Lebanon, and he graduated from Lebanon High School in 1965. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University (SMSU) with a Bachelor of Science in Education. From Drury College he received a Masters in Education, and from SMSU, a specialist in Education and Educational Administration. He was recognized for his dedicated service to the education of children by Southwest District of MAESP. He taught twelve years in elementary school at Lebanon and then became elementary school principal and elementary director. Mike retired after thirty-one years in education.

After his retirement, Mike spent his time with rental property, farming, and developing a subdivision.

Mike was ordained as a Deacon in 1985 at First Baptist Church and was involved in many areas of the church work throughout the years. He enjoyed working with youth in his early years. He also served as Church Administrator. He was a constant voice of reason and wisdom. Mike and Donna made two trips to Diamondhead, Mississippi, with First Baptist Church and Stauffer Mennonite Church to help Katrina hurricane victims. In 2011, he traveled to Port au Prince, Haiti, to build houses for the people of Haiti.

Mike also served on the Hughes Foundation Board for twenty-one years; he was known and appreciated for his attention to detail to financial reports.

Mike was all about family. He married Donna Simpson on February 4, 1967, and shared fifty-four years of love. They had two sons, Erik and Aaron.

Mike especially enjoyed every Christmas hosting the "Lawson Games." The Lawson Games are a cherished family tradition of challenging competition and fun, while spending time with family.

Mike was many things to many people. He held numerous titles such as husband, father, Grandpa Mike, teacher, principal, and deacon. His leadership skills serve many so well. How blessed we were to have known him.

Mike is survived by his wife Donna; two sons, Erik Lawson and his wife Gina of Bolivar, MO, and Aaron Lawson and his wife Carolyn of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Jana Starnes and her husband Danny of Rogersville, MO; Kara Roland of Tennessee; one brother, Jay Lawson and his wife Marti of Graham, TX; six grandchildren, Ashley Chabrecek, Nicole Rash, Cody Lawson and Julie Lawson, Alex Porter and Abbi Jones ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharon and Eddie Vincent of Alabama; other relatives; church family; countless friends and buddies; Matt, Lee and Gary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gale and Retta McClure Lawson, and his parents-in-law, Wilbert and Nadine Simpson.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Mike Lawson's passing yesterday. There are no words to describe the impact Mike has had on our lives, our church, and the community of Lebanon. He has been a part of every major decision, initiative, and launch our church has done over the last decade and a half, especially.

He was a mentor and father figure to Pastor Matt (they went to lunch every week together for over 13 years), a father figure and best friend to our staff, such a dependable servant of Christ to Team FBC, a high capacity producer on any ministry team he was on (most of the time leading them), and a gentle encourager to us and to our kids. He would go to their ball games and functions beaming with pride like they were his own. He made us all feel so loved.

God reminded us daily of His love because Mike was around every day and was His vessel. We mourn our loss, with Donna and their two sons, but without question know where Mike is today. He lived knowing this day would come eventually and to say he was prepared is an understatement.

Matt made the comment in his sorrow yesterday to us, "I don't know how to do this thing without Mike." We all understand what He means. That's just how deep Mike Lawson was to our lives and the success of all He helped us achieve for the Glory of God. Rest High, Buddy! You are one of God's "favorites" and ours as well. Great is your reward now, buddy!
