FOLLOW-UP

Richard (Dick) Hanson gained his angel wings on Wednesday October 27, 2021 at St Peters Hospital in Helena surrounded by his family.

Dick's journey of life started on January 11, 1964 and was born to Duane and Carol Hanson in Deer Lodge, MT and was the 3rd of 4 children. He was born with many challenges but he never let it hinder his spirit and always had a contagious laugh and smile. At a very young age he was at the Shodair Hospital in Helena undergoing many surgeries on his feet and having therapy. His family would bring him home on Friday afternoons and return him on Sunday evenings. At the age of 11 he started walking. After this time and his Mother's persistence with the school, Dick was able to attend school and went all the way through high school and graduated with the Powell County High School Class of 1983. After graduation, Dick moved to Helena and became a resident and was under the care of Westmont where he lived in several of their group homes for 38 years until his time of passing. During this time, Dick participated in Special Olympics where he received medals and ribbons, loved listening to loud music, playing tricks on the staff, pinwheels or anything that spins, going for rides on the interstate and had great love and compassion for his resident friends.

We are so appreciative of the West Mont staff for all their love and support that they have shown Dick over the years. He had a special way of bonding with many of them, they loved him unconditionally and became his family. Managers Lora and Amy made a promise to his Mother Carol when she was passing in 2019, that they would take care of him to the end. They never waivered on this promise and we are forever grateful. Thank You so much!

Dick is survived by his siblings Duane & Yvonne Hanson of Deer Lodge, Debbie & Jim McOmber of Seeley Lake, Rocky and Kim Hanson of Deer Lodge; nephew Christopher McOmber of Seeley Lake; niece Chelsie & Nick Hansen of Great Falls; Aunt Georgia Spence of Missoula, great nieces & nephews plus numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father Duane, mother Carol and nephew Josh McOmber.

While you were here, it was our job to love and protect you. Now that you are in Heaven, please be our guardian angel and watch over us. Rest in peace Dickie, know we will miss you immensely but you will remain in our hearts forever. Love you!!

Memorials in his memory may be made to West Mont in Helena or Montana Special Olympics or charity of your choice.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life which will be held on Tuesday November 2, 2021 at the First Baptist Church located at 127 Sam Beck Road in Deer Lodge.
