He attended CalTech in California and was an active alumni.
He worked for Honeywell for a number of years, then worked at Boeing as an engineer.
In 1977 he married Karen Luanne Emry at Ohme Gardens in Wenatchee.
They lived in Seattle in a house built in 1905. They lived there for 40 years before moving to Tacoma in 2018. In 2020 they moved to Walla Walla, Washington.
John was a vital part of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ballard, a neighborhood in Seattle. He was on the church finance committee. He sang in the choir and was very excited to be a part of choir when they sang at Lincoln Center in New York City.
He enjoyed mountain climbing and climbed 7 mountains in the northwest including Mt. Rainier 2 times.
He was a member of the Stevens Pass ski patrol and loved skiing until in his mid 80's. John was a Boy Scout leader during the years his sons were in Boy Scouts and enjoyed sharing his expertise of camping and hiking with the young men.
He and Luanne took many back packing trips in Oregon and Washington. They owned a sailboat for many years and had many sailing adventures throughout Puget Sound.
Photography was a hobby/passion and he had a darkroom set up in the basement. Many hours were spent taking pictures then developing the prints.
John felt it was important to always keep his word and do the right thing.
He is survived by his wife, Luanne, four children, 9 grand children and 9 great grand children.
