Donovan Gene Wilson, affectionately known as "Big Nooch" and Coach D, made his transition on Sunday October 24, 2021 at home in Lorain, Ohio after fighting an extensive illness. Donovan was born on January 4, 1970 to Eugene and Rose Anne Wilson. He resided in Lorain his entire life. Donovan was a stellar athlete, beginning his athletic journey at Mason Jr. High, Lorain Catholic and finishing his high school years as a Southview Saint. Donovan received a full athletic scholarship to Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland where he earned many awards and held multiple records as a defensive tackle. Due to a football injury, Donovan departed Morgan State University and continued his studies at Ashford University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science. Donovan was a beloved teacher and coach in his hometown of Lorain for 23 years. He held various coaching positions at Southview, Admiral King, Lorain High, Oberlin High School and Oberlin College. Donovan was responsible for re-establishing the girls track and field program at Southview High School. He was also instrumental in leading Lorain High School to their state runner-up title in track and field. Donovan truly made an everlasting impact not only as an educator and coach for the students and athletes, but also for his entire community. His students often stated that "Coach D believed in me, when I didn't believe in myself." Parents continued to thank Donovan over the years for his unwavering mentorship he provided to all of their children. Donovan was honored to have all of his sons follow in his footsteps as phenomenal football players. He leaves to cherish his memory his wonderful wife of 23 years, Angela Wilson (Carlton). Donovan's biggest accomplishments and his greatest gifts in life are his five wonderful children of whom he was immensely proud; Savannah Sade Wilson, Donovan Delonte Wilson, Kier Wilson, Seth Wilson and Luke Wilson. His parents Eugene Wilson (Norma Henderson) and Rose Anne Wilson who reside in Atlanta, GA with his younger sister Melanie Wilson, 9 precious grandchildren and other loving relatives and dear friends.
