Mary Elizabeth Mellinger entered Eternal Life on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the age of 93.

Mary was born in Racine, Wisconsin. She moved with her family to Shorewood when her father,
a railroad employee, was promoted to Stationmaster for the Lakefront Depot of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Milwaukee. She attended St. Robert's School in Shorewood, then Messmer High School and graduated from Marquette University.

She taught for two years in Escanaba, MI, then six years at Milwaukee's Garfield School, where coincidentally her future mother-in-law also taught, which is how Mary and Jack met.

Mary and Jack were married in 1957 and they had three sons. They raised their family in Whitefish Bay, WI, where Mary lived for 44 years. After Jack passed in 2004, she moved to The Porticos in Fox Point where she lived for 15 years until moving to Terova Senior Living in Mequon in May of 2021.

Mary was an active volunteer throughout her life. She taught English as a Second Language to immigrants, active in St. Monica's Parish, St. Francis Children's Center and St. Ben's Meal Program. She was also very active in Christ Child where she earned their prestigious Red Shoe Award.

Mary loved sports, including the Packers, Brewers and Marquette Basketball. She also enjoyed playing games and cards. For decades she was part of a Bridge Club with her good friends. Later she enjoyed gin rummy, cribbage and poker with her sons and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching the Triple Crown horse races with Jack's cousins Cathy and Barb.

Mary loved to travel. As a young woman, she cruised to Europe with her sister and their friends – the Europe Girls continued to get together throughout the decades. She and Jack enjoyed travel with several trips to Europe and many road-trips around the country, including regular visits to Florida and Texas where they spent time with their grandchildren. More recently, she took her children and grandchildren on an Alaskan and New England cruise.

Most important to Mary was her family. She enjoyed sharing family traditions like going to the Zoo, Milwaukee's Circus Parade, and the Whitefish Bay July 4th Celebration. Whether it was her daily calls asking, "Where in the world are you?" or her emails to her family and friends, she always found a way to keep in touch. Mary will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held at Feerick Funeral Home from 4:30 until 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 4, 2021. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Monica Catholic Church, 5681 N. Santa Monica Blvd. Whitefish Bay on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations in Mary's memory to St Ben's Meal Program: Capuchin Community Services www.capuchincommunityservices.org
