JOHNSTON-- Waunema , 91, formerly of Tipton, OK, passed away on January 15, 1998 in Tulsa, OK. She was born in Dexter, TX on November 12, 1906 to Albert and Rilla Faulkner. She moved with her family to Walters, OK in 1920, there she graduated from the Walters High School in 1924. Waunema attended the Nazarene College in Bethany, OK and graduated from Southwestern State at Weatherford, OK. She married Clarence Johnston on July 31, 1932 and taught the 2nd Grade at Tipton Schools for 40 years, retiring in 1971. Her husband, Clarence had retired as the Postmaster for Tipton Post Office in 1965 after 31 years service. Waunema was a member of the Tipton First Baptist Church for 65 years. Her survivors include 2 daughters, Jane Hamilton of Tulsa and Kathryn Eddleman of Eufaula; sister, Marcella Thomason; grandchildren, Jill Johnson of Austin, TX, Ann Bowman of Edmond, OK, Stephen Hamilton of Portland, OR and Traci Hamilton of Weatherford, OK; also 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: husband, Clarence; 2 brothers, Raymon and J.C.; and sister, Inez. Service will be Monday, January 19, 1998 at the First Baptist Church of Tipton, OK.
