Richard Lee Payne, 86, of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, formerly of Eureka, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at his residence.
He was born September 16, 1935, in Peoria, IL, to Richard C. and Dorothy F. (Hexamer) Payne.
He married Edith M. Grusy on October 7, 1956 in Eureka. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Lori (Mike) Martin; one son, Hal (Rhonda) Payne; five grandchildren, Brandi Payne, Derek (Amber) Payne, Shelby (Kody) Quint, Trent (Sylwia) Martin and Stephanie (Ian) Mattan and six great-grandchildren, Ellie Marie, Ayla Jo, Emma Michelle Addie Sue Payne, Isabella Migas and Gabriel Stanley Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Beverly Hain.
He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Toul, France. Richard worked as a lineman for Cilco for 11 years. Later, he became an owner/operator of his own truck. He enjoyed golfing and boating and loved spending time with his family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021. Pastor John Vaughn will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka or to the charity of the donor's choice.
