Beverley "Bev" Anne Stewart passed away on October 9th, 2021 surrounded by family at her home in Tampa, Florida. Bev had spent the last few years of her life soaking up the sun and enjoying piña coladas on the beach with her daughter Deb. She traveled back to Colorado often to see family and friends, with her most recent trip a few weeks prior to her passing. We find peace in knowing she is with the Lord, where she longed to be, and is reunited with her beloved Stew.
Though she was most proud of the love she shared with Stew and the kids and grandkids that followed, Bev had many accomplishments in which she found great joy. In 1955, she was crowned Miss Sky High Stampede. She attended Adams State College, majoring in English and Spanish, later earning additional minors in Latin and Russian. In 1982, she earned her Master's degree in Education. Her passion for teaching and love for literature was inspiring. She was a proud educator for over 30 years, teaching English and Spanish, even being selected Teacher of the Year in 1987. Mrs. Stewart to many and Senora Stewart to others, her students knew they were held to a high standard but cared for deeply by someone who wanted them to be the best they could be and go further than they believed they could. She and Stew also owned and operated the Hitching Post and Ranch House for many years, where they continued to inspire and teach many young people in a different way.
A few years ago, Bev wanted to take away the burden of writing her obituary when the time of her passing would come. However, those who knew Bev would probably agree she just didn't trust us with this important literary task. It brings us great comfort to read her words below and to know how much she longed to spend eternity with Jesus.

I was born to Rufus and Hazel Mann on March 26, 1937. My early life was spent in Creede, Colorado where my parents owned a dairy farm. When I was in the 3rd grade, I moved to Del Norte and became a member of the class of 1955. I loved the Embargo Ranch which was a working cattle ranch where I spent most of my spare time riding horses. In my teen years I worked at the Soward Ranch above Creede.
I married my husband, Gene "Stew" Stewart, in 1955.
To this union of 59 years, three wonderful children were born: Terri (Mike) Vakoff, a son Chad and his sons Kaden and Kollin; Michael (Jo Lynn) Stewart, a son Trevor and a daughter Mikka (Nate) Schler and Debra Stewart, daughters Nici (Kelly) Garcia, their son Kannon and daughter Allyson; and Kami (Tyler) Schill. Leeah (Joey) Lechuga, sons Jason and Evan, joined our family in 1995.
My surviving siblings: Vernon (Maxine) Mann of Del Norte, CO; Lois Rasmussen of Rio Rancho, NM and many nieces and nephews. Other members of my family who have preceded me into eternity and I look forward to seeing them again are parents Rufus and Hazel Mann, brothers Virgil Mann and Raymond Mann; sisters Marjorie Paulson and Gloria Taylor; and my husband Gene "Stew" Stewart.
I cherished family, friends and students with whom I shared my life. I have chosen cremation with my ashes to be interned near Stew at the Del Norte Cemetery. I have requested that no formal services be held. I would rather those who knew me and cared for me in life cherish the memories we had. I have placed my life in Jesus Christ and His forgiveness and gift of eternal life through his death on the cross.
