His birth month and year were given in a census of Confederate soldiers residing in Alabama in 1907. His actual place of birth was given as Gandy's Cove, Morgan County. But that location can't be shared on Find the Grave so I put Falkville since that is the area of Gandy's Cove.

His death date was given by his wife Sarah Turney Stinson in her application of Civil War benefits. But two different dates were given by her in different applications . She gave Jan 17, 1909 in one and Jan 14, 1910 in the other. Family history state he was buried in this cemetery. His wife is also buried here and his daughter Maggie Stinson Wood.

William "Bill" Stinson was a Confederate veteran of the Civil War. Like many others from the Stinson and Turney families he served in the Alabama 5th Calvary. In his pension application his commanders are listed as Col. Patterson and Captain Rice. He enlisted Sep 14, 1862 at Gandy's Cove, Morgan County. He surrendered with the Alabama 5th Cavalry at Danville, Alabama on May 4, 1865.

Bill Stinson's half brother, Mitt Stinson, married his wife Sarah's sister, Belle Turney. Bill's father was David L. Stinson and his mother was Mr. Stinson's first wife Sarah Ray. In David Stinson's marriage record to Sarah Ray it states her name was M. O. Ray. But in Bill's brother John Stinson's Alabama death and burial records it states her name was Sarah Ray.
William Stinson, Enlisted on 12/1/1862 as a Private. On 12/1/1862 he mustered into "L" Co. AL 5th Cavalry.
