Kenneth (Kenny) Darrell Day, 80, of Columbia died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
He was born October 7, 1941 and was the son of Phillip and Kathryn (Eckerle) Day. Kenny called Pilot Grove home for 56 years before moving to Columbia in 1997.
While living in Pilot Grove, Kenny served on the City Council for 15 years. He was active in the Lion's Club and served as the President of the Pilot Grove Recreation Association for several years.
Kenny married Debbie Doyle of Tipton on March 6, 1976. They enjoyed 45 years together caring for their five children and later their dog, Maggie.
In his free time Kenny loved watching Mizzou football and basketball games, visiting with friends over coffee, and landscaping his yard.
Kenny worked in construction all of his life. His craftsmanship and work ethic can be seen in countless homes and buildings across mid-Missouri, including the Hearnes Center at the University of Missouri. Through the years he taught numerous young workers the tricks of the trade.
He is lovingly referred to as "Papa Kenny" by his 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He could often be found in the crowd of numerous ball games, building birdhouses, or performing his thumb magic trick for them.
Kenny will be remembered for his boisterous laugh and ornery smile. He lit up a room the moment he walked in.
He is survived by his wife Debbie; daughters, Gina Day Siegel of Sedalia and Rhonda Day Kraus of Pilot Grove; sons, Ronnie Day (Tami) of Columbia, Rob Day (Julie) of Sedalia and Jeremy Miller of Columbia. He is also survived by his sister Delores Rachaner, and many nieces and nephews,
A private prayer service will be held and the family will hold a celebration of life at St. Joseph Catholic Church basement in Pilot Grove following the 9 a.m. mass on November 7, 2021. All are invited to attend and share memories of a life well lived.
