Dorothy Lee Russell, daughter of the late Will and Mable Russell, was born on February 18, 1936 in Navasota, Grimes County, Texas. One could only wonder if this sweet beautiful baby girl would live a blessed and fruitful life beyond God's promises. Psalms 90:10.

At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ while attending St. Martinsville Baptist Church in Navasota, Texas. After moving to Houston, Texas she joined Mount Ararat Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. I. S. Wright. She later moved her membership to Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. A. L. Patterson Jr. She remained a faithful member of Mount Corinth under the leadership of Pastor Alan Lamar Patterson. She loved her church family and her pastors.

Dorothy received her education in the Navasota School District. She was a graduate of G. W. Carver High School. Dorothy retired from H.I.S.D. Food Service Division after years of dedicated service.

Dorothy would come to Houston every summer to babysit one of her older sister's children. One day while pushing the children on the merry-go-round at Finnegan Park, she met the love of her life, Tommie Jennings. She was united in holy matrimony to Tommie Jennings on June 5, 1954. To this union, they were blessed with a "merry-go-round" of eight children.

Dorothy, whom everyone affectionately called "Maw-Maw," had a sweet, kind, loving, and forgiving spirit. She showed love to everyone who came in contact with her; she was a stranger to no one. She joyfully loved dancing with her family and friends. Dorothy also had an inquisitive mind and loved to "ear-hustle". Before her health declined, she would cook Sunday dinners for loved ones to enjoy while sharing fun stories and laughter.

Dorothy knew from whom her help came, no matter the challenges she faced—God and God alone! On Thursday, August 13, 2020, she transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father. She is Preceded in death by her parents, Will and Mable Russell; son, Maverick Jennings; grandson, Gerald "Jerod" Jennings; brothers, Ervin "Paul" Russell, John Russell, and Willie Manning; and sisters, Ora Lee Hubbard, and Maddie B. Bassett.

Her beautiful life will be forever cherished by her family: sister, Carrie Delane; sons, Tommie Jennings III (Sharon), Reginald Jennings (Royda), Gerald Jennings, Patrick Jennings, Anzel Jennings (Katana), and Omar Al-Tariq (Ayisha); daughters, Veronica Jennings, and Marcia Wilson (Gregory); 23 Grand Children; 24 Great Grand Children; a Loving brother-in-law, Kenneth Jennings; and sisters-in-law, Tommie Benson, Irene Kelly, and Flora Bonham; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Dorothy Jennings departed this life August 13, 2020. Visitation Saturday August 22, 2020, from 9-11am. Funeral 11am. Services will be held at Mt. Corinth B.C. 4901 Providence St. Interment McDonald Cemetery, Navasota, Tx.
