"Ralph E. Mooney, 84, of 206 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, a past chairman of the Carbon County Commissioners, died Wednesday in Palmerton Hospital. He was the husband of Mary (Sass) Mooney. They observed their 62nd wedding anniversary in October.

He owned and operated Mooney's Market, Palmerton, for the past 70 years.

Mooney served on the Carbon County Board of Commissioners for 16 years, serving one four-year termas chairman from 1956-60. He was a director of the Bowmanstown Bank for 30 years. He also was a member of the Township Officials Association of Carbon County, serving a term as president of the group.

In addition he served on the board of governors of the Blue Ridge Country Club.

Born in Little Gap, he was a son of the late Jacob and Sarah (Green) Mooney.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Palmerton.

Surviving with his widow are a daughter, Vivian, wife of Robert Gladden of Lenoir, N.C.; a son, Bernard C. of Palmerton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the T.K. Thomas Funeral Home, 145 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. There will be no calling hours."
