Richard Paul Payne was born on August 20, 1956, in Riverside, California to parents Norman and Betty Payne. Along with his younger siblings Terri Cloum and James Payne, the family followed Norman's Air Force career and were stationed all over the world. Rick lived in Libya, Japan, and Germany before finally settling on Texas.

He grew up loving sports competing in football, basketball, and baseball. After playing baseball at Carrol College in Wisconsin, he moved to San Antonio going to UTSA to be closer to family and eventually met his wife of 41 years, Lonnie Payne.

Rick positively impacted several restaurant companies before joining Cheddar's in September of 1990. Along with Aubrey Good, Doug Rogers, and countless others he helped build Cheddar's into a national brand. Rick's proudest professional accomplishment was the lives he impacted, though that was his "secret." He joined Mike Day and American Meat Company as President/CEO and worked closely over the last 4 years to build a new plant in DFW.

Rick had a love of traveling and spending time with friends and family. He would often be on the golf course with his children and loved to remind them of his five holes-in-one. If Rick was not on the golf course, he was dining out and storytelling with friends and family or near a craps table with all of his luck. Rick's proudest accomplishment was his family.

Rick is survived by his wife, Lonnie Payne; his kids, Stephen Payne and his wife Cynthia, Ryan Payne and his wife Felisha, Ashley Payne, and her husband Joshua Connor; grandchildren Riley and Emma Payne; siblings, Terri Cloum and her husband Stephen and James Payne and his wife, Peggy; many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Payne, and Betty Payne.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate Rick's life Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.
