Joan E. Kennedy, 78, of Riverside, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. There will be no public visitation or funeral service at this time. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Joan. Joan Elizabeth Kennedy was born on January 23, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer "Mike" and Lois (Hanrahan) Poggenpohl. She was a graduate of Regina High School. On July 22, 1961, Joan was united in marriage to Gary Kennedy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City. She worked for the City of Iowa City for the Street Department as a secretary. Joan enjoyed camping, fishing and crafts, but most of all, she dearly loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joan will be deeply missed by her husband, Gary of Riverside; her children, Kandi (Keith) Klein of Riverside, Scott (Sharon) Kennedy of Riverside and Kristene Chalupa of Iowa City; eight grandchildren, Chad Klein, Kristin (Collin) Birch, TJ (Michelle) Kennedy, LaShawna Kennedy, Natoshia Kennedy, Shawn Chalupa, Colton Chalupa and Kiana Chalupa; six great grandchildren and one brother, Jim Poggenpohl of Walcott.
