Joe was a World War II veteran and was inducted into the Army-Air Force in 1944 immediately after completing Senath High School in Senath, Missouri. He met his future wife Alberta James, while attending Senath High School and they were married September 29, 1946. They were married for sixty-six years. They were the parents of Joe Ford III of Bartlett, Tennessee and Karen McCormick of Cabot, Arkansas. They had three granddaughters Sarah Pericfull, Lindsey Campbell and Hayley Ward.
