Dave was born in Canandaigua and was the son of Harlan and Josie (Hook) Bliss. He attended Canandaigua schools and was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy. Dave attended Alfred State College of Agriculture. He worked for his parents in the family business, Bliss Shurfine Supermarket in Shortsville, for many years. Dave was later a salesman, chef, butcher and a bus driver for the Canandaigua City School District, where he was named Driver of the Year for his intervention in a dog attack that threatened a grandmother and granddaughter. He fought off two pit bulls who were trying to attack the grandmother's golden retriever, while on a walk in Farmington.
Dave was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed hunting in the Bristol Hills and many trips out west. Black Lake in the Thousand Islands was a special place to Dave, where he would fish with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fine dining and spending time with his family.
Dave was a former member of the Milnor Masonic Lodge in Victor and was also active with the Shriners and their horse patrol. He formerly coached the 4H Polo Team.
Services are private. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Bristol. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario Co. Humane Society, 2976 Co. Rd. 48, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
