ST. HELENA — Margaret Brendel , 93, 633 Main St., died Monday at her home after a long illness.
A native of Radenitz, Yugoslavia, Mrs. Brendel came to the United States at the age of 17 and settled in Dillon, Mont. In 1900 she married Joseph Butala in Montana and they owned and operated a ranch there.
In 1920 they moved to St. Helena and operated another ranch. Mr. Butala died in 1937.
She married Frank Vidovich in 1941 and they continued to operate their ranch. Mr. Vidovich died in 1959.
She married Leon Brendel in 1961. He died in 1963.
She was the mother of the late Joseph Butala and the late Mrs. Mary Sagadin.
She was a member of the Napa Valley Co-op Winery and the St. Helena Catholic Church.
She is survived by seven granddaughters, Mrs. Manuel (Catherine) Ruiz, Mrs. Nellie Gastelum, Mrs. John (Marion) Scruggs and Mary Ann Sagadin, all of St. Helena, Mrs. James Marge Hendricks of Napa, Mrs. Margaret Ridge of Concord and Mrs. Keith ( Rose) Balsiger of Walnut Creek; eight grandsons and 40 great-grandchildren.
The Rosary will be recited at 8: 15 p.m. Thursday at the Morrison Funeral Chapel. Friends are invited to meet at the Chapel at 9:45 a.m. Friday and thence to the St. Helena Catholic Church where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, St. Helena. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Edward Sagadin, Charles Sagadin, John Sagadin, Fred Sagadin, Joseph Sagadin and James Sagadin.
